A guide to

Your prescription

After an eye exam, your optician gives you a prescription for you to use when ordering your unique opticals. Understanding this prescription helps you get the perfect lenses for clear vision. Here\'s a guide to help you decode it:

Sphere (SPH):
Negative (-): You are nearsighted, meaning you see things better up close.
Positive (+): You are farsighted, meaning you see things better far away.

Cylinder (CYL): If you have astigmatism, this number shows how much correction your lenses need to make your vision sharp and clear.

Axis: This number (from 1 to 180) tells you the direction to place the astigmatism correction in your lenses.

Pupillary Distance (PD): This is the distance between your pupils, measured in millimeters. It ensures your lenses are perfectly aligned with your eyes for the best vision.

Your prescription is unique to you. It\'s like a special recipe that helps create lenses just for your eyes, giving you the clearest vision possible. When you order opticals online at BERTA, these numbers help us make sure your lenses fit your needs perfectly.

If you have any questions or need help, our customer support team is always here for you. We want to make sure you have the best experience and the clearest vision with your new opticals!

Your Pupillary Distance (PD)

Why we need your Pupillary Distance (PD)

Your Pupillary Distance (PD) is crucial for making your opticals perfect. It is the measurement between your pupils and helps us align the lenses correctly with your eyes. Without your unique PD, we can’t ensure your lenses will give you the best vision. Knowing your PD means we can craft lenses that fit you perfectly and provide the clearest, most comfortable vision possible.

How to Measure Your PD at home:
If you don\'t have your PD, don\'t worry, measuring your PD at home is easy with these simple steps:

What You’ll Need:

  • A millimeter ruler
  • A mirror
  • A friend (optional but helpful)

Stand in front of a mirror:
If you\'re doing this alone, stand about 20 cm away from a mirror. If you have someone helping, sit facing them at the same distance.
Hold the ruler:
Place the ruler flat against your forehead, just above your eyes. Make sure the ruler is aligned with the bridge of your nose.
Align the zero:
Close your right eye and align the zero mark of the ruler with the center of your left pupil.
Measure the distance:
Close your left eye and open your right eye. Look straight ahead and note the millimeter mark that lines up with the center of your right pupil. This number is your PD.
Repeat to confirm
For accuracy, repeat the process a couple of times to ensure you get the same measurement.
If you have someone helping, they can hold the ruler and measure the distance between the centers of your pupils while you look straight ahead.

Knowing your PD helps us create lenses that are perfectly tailored to your eyes, giving you the best vision experience. If you have any questions or need further assistance, our customer support team is here to help!
